1978.03 : Savanna RX-7 (SA22C) debuted in March 1978. The RX-7 pure sports
car was developed with the being "fun to drive" in mind.
The RX-7 is powered by the compact 573cc x3 12A rotary engine, mounted
on the back of the front axle, that makes 130 horsepower. And ideal front
and rear weight distribution [50.7:49.3] is realized. The RX-7 adopts pop-up
headlights, bucket seats, and front ventilated disc brakes.
1979.10 : The 12A rotary engine has been improved to the lean-burn type engine, and mpg improved.
1980.11 : There were some minor changes including the urethane bumper and
air dam skirts. And the RX-7 adopts 4-wheel disc brakes (front ventilated).
1982.03 : The 12A engine performance has been improved by using the RE6PI
(6 ports injection), and engine power is increased to 165 horsepower. To
enable the higher driving performance, the final gear ratio has been changed
from 3.727 to 3.909.
1983.09 : The RX-7 adopts the 12A RE turbo rotary engine that makes 165
horsepower. And the drive-train has been improved by updating the clutch
and adopting 4-wheel ventilated disc brakes and large size disc plates.
